The world of children’s literature is a deep dense forest. ‘Aal’ is a unique seed. An extraordinary lush raw seed that encapsulates the dew and spirit of the life awaiting to touch the soil, drink the rain, hit the surface, split and maturate into a tree – the Banyan tree, ‘Aal’ in Tamil.
‘Aal’ is for children and every grown-up who celebrate the child in them. ‘Aal’ is an endless fostering space where dreams are sown, take root, sprout, grow, become leaves and turn into a tree. More and more, it will prepare itself to spread, grow, reach out and take wings – all that becomes Aal Children Publishing.
To the Tamil Children’s literary world, “Aal’ is a newcomer! For us, a long long awaited dream come true.
குழந்தைகள் இலக்கிய உலகம் என்பது அடர்ந்த பெரும் காடு. அதில் 'ஆல்' என்பது ஒரு தனித்துவமான விதை. மண்ணைத் தொட்டு, மழையைக் குடித்து, மேற்பரப்பில் முளைத்து, பிளந்து, மரமாக உருவெடுக்கக் காத்திருக்கும் பனித்துளியையும் உயிரின் ஆன்மாவையும் உள்ளடக்கிய ஒரு பசுமையான விதை — அதுவே தமிழில் 'ஆல்' எனப்படும் ஆலமரம்.
'ஆல்' என்பது குழந்தைகளுக்கும், தங்களுக்குள் இருக்கும் குழந்தையை கொண்டாடும் ஒவ்வொரு பெரியவருக்குமானது. கனவுகள் விதைக்கப்பட்டு, வேரூன்றி, முளைத்து, வளர்ந்து, இலைகளாகி, மரமாக மாறும் ஓர் எல்லையற்ற வளர்ப்பு வெளி. மேலும் மேலும் இது பரவி, வளர்ந்து, சிறகடித்துப் பறக்கத் தன்னைத் தயார்படுத்திக் கொள்ளும் — அதுவே ஆல் குழந்தைகள் பதிப்பகம்.
தமிழ் குழந்தைகள் இலக்கிய உலகிற்கு 'ஆல்' ஒரு புதிய வரவு! எங்களுக்கு, நீண்ட நெடிய நாள் காத்திருந்த கனவு நனவான தருணம்.
Aal – A Story ஆல் — ஒரு கதை
A girl’s tiny seed of dream that becomes mine, yours, and everyone’s dream. ஒரு சிறுமியின் கனவு விதை — என், உன், அனைவரின் கனவாக வளர்ந்த கதை.
A little girl. Glistening caramel colored skin. Fluttering dark eyes. Her curly locks make the wind undulate. Her world is very beautiful filled with pranks and tricks. And it is made of dreams.
A dream is, she would say with her hands wide open, twinkling eyes and an open warm heart:
ஒரு சிறுமி. மின்னும் கேரமல் நிறத் தோல். படபடக்கும் கரிய விழிகள். அவளின் சுருள் முடிகள் காற்றில் நடனமாடுகின்றன. குறும்புகளும் மாயங்களும் நிறைந்த அவளது உலகம் மிக அழகானது. அது கனவுகளால் ஆனது.
கைகளை அகல விரித்து, ஒளிரும் விழிகளோடும், திறந்த கனிவான இதயத்தோடும் அவள் சொல்வாள்:
"I am extraordinary! The playground trembles and quivers. The moment the ball lands between my feet, it is like pulling the trigger of a gun. A goal. The star of the football stadium – that’s me!"
"நான் அசாதாரணமானவள்! விளையாட்டு மைதானமே அதிர்கிறது. பந்து என் கால்களுக்கு இடையில் வரும் கணம், துப்பாக்கியின் விசையை அழுத்துவது போல். ஒரு கோல்! கால்பந்து மைதானத்தின் நட்சத்திரம் — நானே தான்!"
"The forests ablaze. I carry the ocean to put the fire out. I am superior to all the firefighters."
"காடுகள் எரிகின்றன. நெருப்பை அணைக்க நான் பெருங்கடலையே சுமந்து வருகிறேன். தீயணைப்பாளர்கள் அனைவரையும் விட நான் மேலானவள்."
"I am the magician who says 'sim salaa bim' and sprinkle some magic. And there you are! The whole world becomes full of children."
"'சிம் சாலா பிம்' என்று கூறி மந்திரத்தை தெளிக்கும் மாயக்காரி நான். இதோ பாருங்கள்! உலகம் முழுதும் குழந்தைகளால் நிறைகிறது."
"I am the artist who asks 'why do we need words when there are colors?' My hands are my brushes and with my feet drumming I become a musician. In a snap, I become a bird. I begin to fly, fly and fly claiming the whole vast sky."
"'வண்ணங்கள் இருக்கும் போது சொற்கள் எதற்கு?' என்று கேட்கும் ஓவியர் நான். என் கைகளே தூரிகைகள், கால்களின் தாளத்தால் இசைக் கலைஞராகிறேன். ஒரு நொடியில் பறவையாகி, பறந்து பறந்து பரந்த வானத்தையே சொந்தமாக்கிக் கொள்கிறேன்."
Her dreams never end. One day, she gathered all her dreams and transformed them into a seed. She embraced the seed in her palms feeling its warmth. She kissed it softly before planting it in the soil.
A boy became the sun. A girl became the quenching rain and another little girl the breeze. The seed sprouted and grew tall with branches and leaves. Its fruits became the seeds of many children’s dreams growing into a large tree with aerial roots spreading everywhere.

அவளது கனவுகள் ஒருபோதும் முடிவதில்லை. ஒரு நாள், அவள் தன் எல்லாக் கனவுகளையும் ஒன்று திரட்டி ஒரு விதையாக மாற்றினாள். தன் உள்ளங்கைகளில் அந்த விதையை அணைத்து அதன் கதகதப்பை உணர்ந்தாள். அதை மென்மையாக முத்தமிட்டு மண்ணில் நட்டாள்.
ஒரு சிறுவன் சூரியனானான். ஒரு சிறுமி தாகம் தீர்க்கும் மழையானாள், மற்றொரு சிறுமி தென்றலானாள். விதை முளைத்து, கிளைகளோடும் இலைகளோடும் உயர்ந்து வளர்ந்தது. அதன் பழங்கள் பல குழந்தைகளின் கனவு விதைகளாகி, விழுதுகள் எங்கும் பரவும் பெருமரமாய் உருவெடுத்தன.
என், உன் மற்றும் அனைவரின் கனவாக மாறிய ஒரு சிறுமியின் சிறிய கனவு விதை ஒரு பெரிய மரமாக வளர்ந்தது. அதன் பெயரே ஆலமரம்.

Prashanthy Sekaram, Tamil by birth and German by nationality, graduated with a Master Degree (M.A.) in Anthropology, English & American Studies and Sociology from Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany. She has worked as an independent scholar and freelance writer for arts & culture and has written for magazines, literary journals and newspapers in Europe and South Asia. Based in Berlin, Prashanthy’s passion lies in languages, literature, arts and the love for the ‘little’ things in life that make big things happen. The result is the birth of Aal Children.
பிரசாந்தி சேகரம், பிறப்பால் தமிழர் மற்றும் ஜெர்மன் குடியுரிமை பெற்றவர். ஜெர்மனியின் பெர்லின் ஹம்போல்ட் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் மானுடவியல், ஆங்கிலம் & அமெரிக்க ஆய்வுகள் மற்றும் சமூகவியலில் முதுகலை பட்டம் (M.A.) பெற்றவர். கலை மற்றும் கலாச்சாரத்திற்கான சுயாதீன ஆய்வாளராகவும் எழுத்தாளராகவும் ஐரோப்பா மற்றும் தெற்காசியாவின் இதழ்கள் மற்றும் நாளிதழ்களில் எழுதியுள்ளார். மொழிகள், இலக்கியம், கலை மற்றும் வாழ்வில் பெரிய மாற்றங்களை உருவாக்கும் சிறு விஷயங்களின் மீதான காதலே 'ஆல் குழந்தைகள்' பிறப்பிற்குக் காரணமாக அமைந்தது.
Kannan Sundaram was the proprietor of Kalachuvadu Pathippagam from 1995 to 2010 and is presently the Managing Director and Publisher of Kalachuvadu Publication Pvt Ltd, besides being Editor and Publisher of Kalachuvadu, a monthly journal for culture and politics. He was part of the International Visitor Program to the U.S. in 2002 and of the Frankfurt Book Fair Fellowship Program in 2007. Kannan’s aim is to get the best pieces of literature available in Tamil translated to other Indian and world languages and vice versa.
கண்ணன் சுந்தரம் 1995 முதல் 2010 வரை காலச்சுவடு பதிப்பகத்தின் உரிமையாளராக இருந்தவர். தற்போது காலச்சுவடு பதிப்பகத்தின் மேலாண் இயக்குனராகவும் பதிப்பாளராகவும், கலாச்சாரம் மற்றும் அரசியலுக்கான மாத இதழான காலச்சுவட்டின் ஆசிரியர் மற்றும் பதிப்பாளராகவும் உள்ளார். 2002ல் அமெரிக்காவின் சர்வதேச பார்வையாளர் திட்டத்திலும், 2007ல் பிராங்பேர்ட் புத்தகக் கண்காட்சி பெல்லோஷிப்பிலும் பங்கேற்றவர். தமிழில் உள்ள சிறந்த இலக்கியங்களை பிற இந்திய மற்றும் உலக மொழிகளுக்கும், பிற மொழிப் படைப்புகளை தமிழுக்கும் கொண்டு வருவதே இவரது நோக்கம்.
